Surgical Assistants

Assist surgeons during procedures to prepare patients, keep the environment and instruments sterile, monitor and position patients and equipment, and facilitate postoperative patient care. Use surgical retractors, sponges, suction equipment, and irrigators to keep the site of surgery clear. Hold tissues out of the way, insert tubes and i.v. lines, close incisions. Must be aware of surgical procedures and able to implement them without instruction while following any directions given by the surgeon.
