Design, build, and test vehicles and other equipment (i.e., missiles) meant for air and space flight. Research known designs and apply principles to new or modified designs. Find or develop parts and materials needed. Evaluate test data and devise and implement solutions to problems. Time will be spent working on a computer, in a scientific machinery lab, and collaborating with others. May require living in certain areas where this type of work is done.
Design, build, test, and modify designs to meet the specifications of a project for the company or its clients.Apply the physics of flight to develop prototypes and outline procedures for experimental, operational, environmental, and stess tests on aeronautical and aerospace designs.Use computer software and equipment to perform calculations, formulate designs, and collect and analyze data. Oversee testing and data collection, evaluate results. Write technical documents outlining the design and testing parameters, summarizing results, recommending modifications, and providing detailed instructions for use.
