Optometrists are licensed and best known for eye exams and prescriptions for corrective lenses for glasses, contacts, or sports goggles which they fit and adjust as needed.Their examinations check for conditions and diseases of the eye and associated nerves and muscles. They use complex instruments to measure visual acuity, focus, and eye coordination. They diagnose diseases and conditions such as color blindness, glaucoma, or macular degeneration. They may prescribe medication under state laws, remove foreign matter from eyes, and develop treatment plans for specific eye issues.(FYI – Opticians are not licensed and fabricate frames and lenses; Opthamologists are MDs who provide medical eye care..
