These licensed therapists aid couple , families and individuals in coping with personal, and relationship difficulties. Depending on what situations present, there may be a need for diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Using counseling approaches such as family systems theories, cognitive behavioral therapies, etc., a wide scope of problems may require attention. Working within their areas of competence (education and experience), each therapist may address family and parental issues, domestic violence, emotional disturbances, marital issues, and sexual dysfunctions. They may refer individuals within the family for individual treatment. Asking questions to explore feelings and behaviors, perspectives and beliefs in order to develop insight adequate to prepare and execute treatment plans. Case files must be created and progress notes , evalutaions, and recommendations annotated. Ethical boundaries guide the conduct of therapy.
